Chutzpah

Ordinarily, I'd leave posting on the front page to our other, more erudite contributors, but this just put a great big grin on my face.

BBC is reporting that everyone's favorite Iranian, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has challenged President Bush* to a live TV debate on world affairs. The White House is calling this a "diversion" from global concerns over Iran's nuclear program.

Well gosh, you know, even if it is a diversion, I'm just gonna go ahead and give President Ahmadinejad* points on sheer chutzpah. I don't care whether you like, dislike, respect or loathe the guy, you just have to give him points on chutzpah.

Granted, President Bush isn't going to take him up on his challenge anytime soon, and a challenge to debate is not necessarily an indication that Iran's looking to openly debate any number of serious issues out in the open, on the world stage. The points are for chutzpah - and for the most innovative approach to a fundamentalist regime. First, there was President Ahmadinejad's blog. Now, he's offering to debate the American President. Even if you think these are distractions and diversions, there's something intensely interesting about the approach President Ahmadinejad is taking to his anti-Americanism.

*I have referred to both men, President Bush and President Ahmadinejad, by their titles, not necessarily because of any reverence for either man, but because I happen to think it's the polite thing to do.

Yeah, we all know what a powerful speaker Dubya is.

Ahmadinejad is not showing much Chuzpah. He and Hugo Chavez could mop the mat with Bush and Cheyney.

*grin*

Fair enough, Buzz Kill. But I still can't stop grinning.

Do you think they could do a wrestling match? But who would be the face and the heel?

I hate that when you have to choose the lesser of two evils and it really is evil.

I'd have to support Bush. That is like having to support John Cena because he is fighting Rowdy Roddy Piper!

Unfortunately I believe most highschool debaters could defeat Bush without breaking a sweat.... Of course I might be prejudice since I was a debate geek too lol.

The softest things in the world overcome the hardest things in the world.

To level the playing field I propose they both debate in English.
