Get out there and VOTE.
Get out and vote, people.
It's that simple. I'm disinclined toward telling grown folk what to do, but I'll make an exception for this. Most of the time, the most significant differences among candidates include tie colors and hair parting preferences, but if you don't vote, you don't count. So vote.
Tonight or early tomorrow, you should be taking a look at the ballot, or otherwise finding out who's running for what, under what party, and if you haven't already, making a brief list of your choices. Call the Elections Department in your city/town to make sure when and where you should be voting, and what you should bring. In most cases, photo ID will be more than sufficient. Save their number to report any tomfoolery at the polls.
Find out where to vote here:

Make time to vote. There are few things more important tomorrow that making sure that we stay a democratic republic. Go with someone to the polling place, give elderly or disabled folk a lift to polling places if you've got a car, and bug your friends to vote. Treat voters at work/school to a round of coffee. (Laury and I found out that offers of caffeine immediately spark interest in an event.)
Also, be observant of any signs of voting hijinks: people who look confused or frustrated who are not being helped, large crowds of people who don't appear to be campaign or election workers, news of polling places changing locations or hours at the last minute, or last minute changes in voting requirements. Report them if you can.
For those who object to the idea of taking part in the American democratic process: feel free to abstain from participating, that is your right, but it would be the height of ingratitude for me to disregard the precious opportunities that those who knew me not risked death for me to have. For those who may think of voting as one of those virtuous chores that you avoid if you can, remember the sacrifice of those who gave so much to make this opportunity available to all- including you. For those who consider voting to be highly important, share this enthusiasm with those who may be lackadaisical about voting. For those who fought, rode, crawled through fields to fulfill the promise of the Fourteenth Amendment, including my own forebears, we have not forgotten you, and we will honor your struggle.
That said, anyone caught voting Republican will be smacked. (JK.)

I couldn’t agree more, especially if you are Muslim.

Predictably, some idiots put up “voting=shirk” arguments on their blogs, so I ended up writing about that shit. God, I’m sick of the people
How in the world can someone
How in the world can someone connote voting with shirk? Oy Allah.
I’m waiting to see if John Sweeney is out up here in Saratoga. He is considered one of the most corrupt congressmen in office. He also beats his wife and is a drunk, oh Sweeney how we love thee! I voted for the person opposing him, you know what I mean?
I must admit I did not vote for Hilary. Couldn’t do it. She’s done nothing for upstate NY. Nothing for gender issues. She’ll win overwhelmingly, I just want her to know I did not vote for her.
New York is cool cause we have open ballots. This means that we can vote for a democrat/republican but by way of the working families party/libertarian or some such. This means these other parties get enough votes to stay on the ballot and run their own candidates in smaller races where they have a chance. My sensible self knows that we are one of two states who do this and the US will never have multi-party systems, nor is open balloting going to give us multi-party systems…....alright. Aw, I’m feeling defeated again…..maybe voting is a sin? A sin because voting leads to despair?
I’ll report back on Sweeney.

I believe in voting. That being said, DA, do not you think they may have a point? These people sense of morality (as translated into laws etc) lies outside them, i.e., in texts, traditions etc. Voting places the source of laws and in a sense, the moral dimension in the individual. The Christian right oppose abortions partly because of that type of reasoning..
DA, do you see the logic behind the statement: voting=shirk.
I think this is way they saw it.
The logic of thier point is
The logic of thier point is wholly irrelevant. Its the harmful result of thier statements that invalidates their call to action. Let them choose for themselves as they wish, but the very nature of thier statement is coercive, designed to persuade Muslims to not participate in any system in which these people are not in charge, whatever they say about making Allah as the chief of thier fanciful political system.

Oh well, I’m so not worried about non-voters at the moment- ‘cause Massachusetts has a brother for a governor! Woo-hoo!

Your statement is toxic! not designed to appeal to the market of ideas. The logic behind their argument is functional; their logic shiels them from being labeled: nuts.
I do not buy what they are calling for myself, however, the logic works for them. You do not like it, do not adopt it. Others may think and act that way; let it be, accept diversity.
Logic? Lots of things can be
Logic? Lots of things can be “logical”, however subjective you use the term, here. But, as a I said, its apparent logic is irrelevant. Me toxic in this matter? Any call that casts refusers as mushriks is truly toxic; let not your grudge against me lead you to give them a free pass. Such people should be suppressed for making takfir on people who vote. They seek harm for whomsoever refuses to abide by them. That makes them fair game in my book. Its huntin’ season, y’all.

Omarg: you dislike them to
Omarg:
you dislike them to the degree you look like them.
they do takfir to those who vote; you want to suppress them.
your thinking and theirs are the two sides of the same coin.
Oppression of the right is just as wrong as oppression of the left.
*do you mean ‘it is’ when you write ‘its’? part of the reason why your thinking is screwed up???
>>they do takfir to those
>>they do takfir to those who vote; you want to suppress them.
And
>>your thinking and theirs are the two sides of the same coin.
Your argument betrays a classically unsustainable ill-liberalism. It is not possible to tolerate people who want to oppress me, especially when they claim Allah tells them to do it. Such people must be stopped, else they will spread fitna as they’re ideological bretheren in the jihadi movements are already doing. Your paralysis against them will be your undoing. Are you sure you’re not one of them masquerading?? I think you are: its a classic that Islamists masquerade as liberals in order to get the pressure off of them and open the way for thier agenda. What’s your agenda?

Note to GMasala: I love the irony of your critique of Jordan below. Cut out the crazy language. ÂÂ
So what if he's a "brother"?
So what if he's a "brother"? You vote for people because of their skin color? Should I vote only for Jewish candidates then?
Note to Jordan: I deleted your last sentence. Keep your arguments to content and not to personal attack. ÂÂ
