Important: New feature added

Greetings and salutations all...

By somewhat popular demand, I've enabled the posting of YouTube videos to the site. It started with Laury requesting the feature, and in trying to figure out just how to make that happen (Drupal has a very strict filter in place to prevent just that), I found something that will let us turn this filter off for registered users and contributors.

Yes, you have to be registered in order to post a YouTube video, but hey, I have to keep this manageable somehow, no?

A couple of caveats:

  1. You can only post YouTube videos. If someone has another site they want me to add to our filter list, shoot me an email. My contact info is on the "About Us" page.
  2. You have to disable 'rich-text' posting. Sadly, I can't get the automatic HTML embedding editor to not filter the tags required by YouTube (I will, eventually), so you have to add your video to the site in plain old text/HTML. Sorry!

That's it! Enjoy.

Link only?

How about embedding the image?

Nooooo. You tube embedded items are Flash and it slows down browsers. Anyway, what's the point? Are these videos done by people here? If so, there is a use for this function. If not, then is it simply so people can say, "hey, watch this cool video of this guy picking his nose! woohoo!"

web 2.0 is such an evolutionary step backwards sometimes... ;-)

Omar, Actually the reason I went hunting for a safe way to embed videos was because we needed a qick, easy way to put up a video made by Mike Knight. The assumption is, of course, that our honored and esteemed contributors and bloggers and readers will exercise the supreme caution, grace and good judgement they are known so widely around the world for. Buzz Kill - you can embed the entire video in your post. Check out my reader diary for an example.
