Inshallah; I finally found out it really means, NO!
Funny thing, I was talking to my husband and we were joking around, so I asked him to do something, something I knew he didn’t want to do, but I asked just to be a pain and his response was, "Inshallah." I laughed, he laughed, we acknowledged what most Muslims already know, that if you ask a muslim for something directly instead of saying, No, can’t do it and here’s why. They say, "Inshallah" For instance there was this Moroccan sister who I admired, she really knew her Quran and could recite. I wanted to learn from her, so I invited her to my house. She had been very friendly in the masjid, so I thought, what the heck…., She gave me the "Inshallah" It took me a minute but I realized, hey that’s the nice put down, the no, the get outa here.
Also two facedness is alive and well in Islam. The masjid is next to a liquor store. That to me is a convenience, in terms of getting bottled water, or what have you.
Well, one day I was in the masjid, it was hot, and I asked a sister to go with me to buy some ice cream (Eskimo Pie). UMMMMM. And while we stood in our group, all listening, she postured and with a great look of dismay on her face, "NO! That’s a liquor store, I’d never go into a liquor store." Well, I gave her the back of my hand signal, Like, "Yeah right, you went with me a week ago." I went and got my ice cream, Salaamed the proprietor who is muslim, and ate it with relish standing in front of the mosque. Another sister came up to me laughing and hugged me, she said, "Girl, I see you got your ice cream." My mouth was too full of it to talk, but my smile said it all.
Ma Shallah, cool ice cream, and a hot head, OH YEAH
