Veiled and Obvious

See me.....I am covered because of the beauty of it like a river of color I adorn, with rainbows and silk, and metal and stones.  See me, I am successful, independent and free, the veil does not define me, it gives me respite, it gives me shelter and it

gives me a place to look out from to see the world.  I am different, I am not enslaved.  My brain is free.  My thoughts run like a river.  My eyes gaze at open spaces.

I am strong.  I make the law work for me, I am the law,  there is no fear.  Black I do not wear, its for mourning, I have lost nothing.   My heart is full, I love Islam it works within me, it is me, it is who I am.  Refined and beautiful and at peace.  I do not fear hijab, it should fear me.  If the stones I walk upon say, "cover your eyes" I would cover my eyes and I would still see them.  If the death of a thousand of me drenched the newspapers I would still wear my veil of life, my placental mask from my mother and her mother....mirrrors in a mirror in a mirror.  Love what you own, be who you are.  Turn the mattress over, jump over the stream, be in love with what you are and it will love you back.
