The Muslim Women's Health Project is intended to provide Muslim women with reliable information about their reproductive and sexual health. We have put this page up in a lean format initially and will continue to add article, sections, and resources, insha'allah.
Sections will include introductory discussions on each topic from Muslim women's perspective with links to resources such as The Women Our Bodies Ourselves website, the Muslim Women's League document on Sex and Sexuality in Islam, and other useful websites such as Kecia Ali's Muslim Sexual Ethics site.
Sections will include advocacy resources for Muslim women specific to that issue and lists of Muslim women's advocacy organizations in general.
The links to Women Our Bodies Ourselves companion site typically provide an excerpt from a chapter, web links, and bibliographies on specific issues. We suggest women purchase a copy of this book. It is an essential resource by women for women on women's health and sexuality. Issues raised in the Muslim Women's League document can be followed up through Our Bodies Ourselves and their weblinks.
It is important to be straightforward when speaking about health and sexuality. The following sections will include frank language and offer links to educational and commercial pages about sexual and reproductive health and sexual activity. Please explore them and learn about yourself and your partner, but also realize you can close the window at anytime should you become uncomfortable. It is not unusual for us to feel shy or even ashamed at first when discussing or even reading about sexuality. So take your time and set your own pace.
